Technical Manager

North West

75k + car allowance

Technical lead on a future flagship site with an eight figure investment in the heart of the North West.

Here’s a little note. If you click “apply”, you’re not actually applying. For anything.

You’re only committing to having a very private conversation with someone, and to see if there could be a fit between this company and your aspirations and experience.

That’s it.

If you’re not sure? Apply. See if it’s for you. If it isn’t, you’ve lost nothing. You might even get some advice on what would be right for you.

If you phone up and the role could be of interest, here’s what will happen.

We’ll tell you who the job is with.

We’ll tell you where it is.

We’ll tell you what the site’s challenges are.

We’ll tell you what the benefits to you could be.

We’ll ask you to keep it to yourself, of course. But we will be entirely open with you.

Because that’s the only way you can make an informed decision about whether or not it could be a right for you.

The Job & The Company

There’s a food manufacturing site. There have been significant changes at the top, and its probably fair to say that this is to the delight of the people at the bottom.

There will be significant changes onsite over the next three to four years. It’s going to take a lot of work, but there’s going to be a lot of support to help you get there.

The plans for the site are impressive. There’ll be a significant financial investment in the site (an eight figure sum). There’s also a technical function with the ability to support you. There’s personal professional development so you can develop your own career with that of the site and the business.

Unlike a lot of businesses, you’ll be able to advance your career and career earnings. You’ll handle challenging projects that most people will never have the opportunity to work on. If you want a fulfilling career in a professional business, where you can develop cross functionally as well as in food safety and technical – then enquire. Ask about it. It could be for you.

The wider business has had a nine figure positive improvement in financial performance inside the last five years. The people who have masterminded and delivered that will be the senior leadership team you will report into.

So you’ll have people to look up to, and to learn from.

What you might not like

The site is at the start of a long and pretty arduous journey. The technical team is a lean one.

The level of investment in the site is going to cause all sorts of headaches as well.

Because while someone is installing the fancy new kit, the site will need to continue to produce. And to do it safely, compliantly, and profitably.

The shop floor is willing but needs training and development.

When you have to show your teeth, there is an accepted way of doing it. That is through coaching. And pretty much every other way is not accepted as a way of doing it.

And the plans for this site are for it to be the gleaming jewel in the crown. Which means scrutiny and expectation.

So the work will be hard, for the long term, and there’ll be a huge chunk of complexity thrown at the site and everyone will be looking at you.

And those are all legitimate things, which you might not like.

It doesn’t mean don’t apply. Because applying is just putting your hand up to ask a question about the site and the role in a private setting. It just means you’ll have an idea of what to ask about.

You!

There’s a few things which will discount you.

If you haven’t worked to retailer standards in the last three or four years, then this isn’t the right role for you.

Take your total years in work and divide it by how many companies you’ve been at. If that number’s under 2, we’ll probably have questions.

Here’s a few things to mention, which would make you stand out:

  • Managing the technical function of a food or drinks manufacturing site whilst there was significant capital investment onsite.
  • Extensive chilled or high care experience.
  • Rapid career development.

What to do now

Press apply, or email a copy of your CV to jeremy.pierce@silven.co.uk. If your application is absolutely not right, I may not respond. It isn’t personal, it just means this isn’t the one. But if you’re close? I’ll definitely be in touch.
