Technical Manager
£65000 / year
Midlands

Most people I know who are technical directors, who are heads of technical, for the larger sites – they tend to know M&S. Or people there. It isn’t a prerequisitie. It isn’t everyone. It’s a bit more than half though.

Most people I know who have progressed really quickly have worked on sites that have allowed them to progress quickly.

They’ve had a mixture of a few things.

Support from their Site Director and their line manager.

Enough challenges to test themselves and push themselves.

Sometimes to achieve more than they thought they could.

Okay.

About the job. About the site!

What the job is

It’s technical manager for a food manufacturing site which predominantly supplies into Marks and Spencer. It’s an M&S site, so it’d be nice if you know M&S. However. If you don’t know them, then this is the chance to do so.

You’ll be managing a quality manager, a team of QAs, the hygiene team as well.

There’s all the stuff you’d expect; audits, customer visits, maintaining standards, etc.

Why you might want to do it

  • You’d be working for a prestigious customer in a very visible role.
  • Opportunities to progress within a wider group.
  • Central location, lots of opportunites to progress.

There’s a lot going on in the site. You’ll get to help to build and develop the technical team that you want to have. The Technical Director is super approachable. They’re local to site, too, so while they do have a multisite role, there’s always going to be support close to hand.

What you’ll need

  • You’ve been building a career in the quality or technical department of a food manufacturer.
  • You’ve been doing that for a number of years, and at least got to Technical Manager level.
  • A sense of humour. Or at least a good attitude! The site team care about each other. This means you’ll enjoy your work and they’ll enjoy working with you.

If you’re interested, you have the right background in food manufacturing, in technical or quality, and you want to apply, then please do. Happy to discuss the role with you.
