Company
Normally you have to choose between a big, stable company or a plucky challenger. One gives you the chance to make your mark and grow something. The other gives you stability but often you end being a bit of a small cog in a big machine.
This opportunity gives you the best of both.
They’re pretty big. Last year they sold more than $12,000,000,000 (bn). That is a lot of food.
It also usually means that you’re going to get lost in a sea of people (or maybe an ocean of them).
Well, as this company has only a handful of people based out of the UK, and as international growth is a key area for the business, you’re unlikely to be lost in a sea of anything.
What you do will matter. It will make a difference.
Not to like
NOTE: It’s pretty rare to have a ‘what not to like’ section. We do appreciate this. We also think it’s kind of dumb. Our goal is to repel people who would hate the job, and attract people who would thrive. Being honest seems a good way to go about that.
You’re working out of a smallish office. The team is seven people covering EMEA, with six based out of the UK.
If you’re after a rowdy ‘lads lads lads’ type culture, then you’re probably going to hate it here. It can be a little quiet. It isn’t fifteen twenty year olds all going on the lash every night either. If you want that, then what you want probably isn’t this.
This part of the business is genuinely entrepreneurial too. That means you’ve got freedom, opportunity and that your work is meaningful. It also means you don’t have certain systems and supports.
So, if you want to work for a Mars or a Unilever or someone with processes and procedures for everything from client acquisition to toilet visits – with people to pick up your admin, to tell you exactly what to do and exactly how to do it – you’re probably better off going somewhere with a bigger UK footprint.
Finally, the role is three days in the office, so if you want to be 100% based at home / on the road, it probably isn’t right easier.
Person
You’ve maybe been a National Account Executive. Maybe a junior NAM.
If you’ve sold into food service, then our client can help you build that out. If you’ve sold into retail, then you can develop further into that.
You’ve probably sold food. If not, some other FMCG products.
You’re going to be a nice person. You want to do sales and be successful, but there’s a good chance you’ll still cringe a bit when you see people on the Apprentice boasting shamelessly that they’re without doubt the Greatest Salesperson Who Ever Lived (despite only ever having sold mobile phones).
You can get to the office (which is in Leamington Spa).
What to do now.
