The Candidate:


  • Educated to degree level, preferably in food science, technology or nutrition.
  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience
  • A good understanding of Retailer Specification Systems (FIND, INSPIRE, TQC, ASPECT etc).
  • Knowledge of relevant UK & EU Food Legislation, guidelines and retail policies & codes of practice.
  • Knowledge of ingredients, nutrition & factory process methods.
  • General awareness of food industry requirements.
  • A thorough approach to work and an eye for detail
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan and manage conflicting priorities


The Role:


  • Manage the Specification Technologists Team, providing leadership for the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Food Technology Department.
  • Work across functions and departments providing technical support and advice and conducting internal audits as required.
  • Ensure that the Company is kept up to date regarding food legislation as well as customer and company standards, driving continuous improvements across the function.
  • Ensure that the necessary and appropriate responses are provided for all customer technical inquiries and any complaints received.
  • Assist with the bench marking and analysis of new products, ensuring technical compliance to specifications as well as nutritional and shelf life requirements and advise on legal, nutrition and labelling matters.
  • Generate pack copy information for the creation of artwork, approve artwork, identify and advise on any labelling non-conformances.
  • Attend and assist with the development, pre-production trials and launches to ensure products are produced in accordance with their specifications (to include supplier visits outside the country).
  • Compile, review and update internal finished product specifications in line with food safety and quality requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure the necessary documentation and records are accurately completed and maintained as required.
  • Work together with internal and external contacts to collect, update, input, challenge and maintain the technical information on existing specifications and artwork as required.
  • Liaise with external laboratories and “advisory” companies/organisations and support customer visits and third-party audits.
